Nova Scotia welcomes World Energy Explorers

MacDonald

Premier Rodney MacDonald

As Premier of Nova Scotia, I believe in the people, the potential and in the resources of our offshore energy sector. I believe that government must encourage industry to continue its exploration of our oil and gas resources - both offshore and onshore Nova Scotia. Within this publication, you will find valuable information about ongoing activity in Nova Scotia, as well as information about new initiatives, including changes to licensing, policies and the regulatory landscape. As part of our efforts to attract new companies, we are providing more geoscience on the Internet and listening to industry.

Nova Scotia has energy potential and experience. We made our first offshore natural gas discovery in 1969 and began our first offshore oil production in 1992. Our offshore and onshore industrial sector, represented by the Offshore/Onshore Technologies Association of Nova Scotia (OTANS), is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Since 1982, OTANS and our other partners have helped us develop opportunities both here at home, in Western Canada, and around the globe. I hope this publication convinces you to seek out more information about the energy sector in Nova Scotia. The time is right.

Explore Nova Scotia’s Offshore Frontier

Minister Richard Hurlburt

Minister Richard Hurlburt

As Energy Minister, I am extremely proud of our companies, our people and our energy resources. Our companies and people can be found around the globe providing quality products, services and experience. They gained this experience at home, working with industry leaders such as ExxonMobil, Shell, EnCana and others.

Geographically, we are located next to the Northeastern United States, one of North America’s largest energy markets. At home, we are creating a positive environment so that companies come and explore our resources, both offshore and onshore, and in our growing renewable sector.

We are investing in geoscience research, developing our expertise and making profound changes to our regulations. We asked for industry input and we listened.

In the upcoming year, and into the future, representatives from Nova Scotia will be traveling throughout the world to promote our exploration opportunities. I invite you to learn more about the regulatory changes we have made in Nova Scotia. And I invite you to learn how we can assist you as you seek new energy opportunities in our Province and the Atlantic region. Our goal is to help reduce the risk for explorers by providing companies with the research and support they need.
