“We are pleased that TotalEnergies has chosen us after intensive negotiations. The continuation of this long-standing cooperation based on trust underscores our strong position as a solution provider for efficiency and sustainability”, says Bilfinger Group CEO Thomas Schulz. “As a leading German industrial service provider, we can optimally serve the trend towards outsourcing and greater sustainability with our high-performance teams, tools and processes. Because we deliver integrated maintenance services from a single source, we are able to ensure that our customers’ plants achieve the highest levels of efficiency and sustainability.”

Bilfinger Engineering & Maintenance has been responsible for the maintenance of large sections of the refinery complex since the time it was commissioned in 1997. A multidisciplinary team of more than 160 Bilfinger employees is on-site every day in Leuna, working to ensure the smooth operation of one of the largest, most modern and most energy-efficient refineries in Europe. The range of services being delivered includes the maintenance of piping systems, mechanical and electrical engineering as well as analysis and automation technology. In addition, the team is helping to ensure that the facilities meet the highest standards in terms of safety, environment and technology by carrying out modifications and providing support during scheduled turnarounds.

The site of the French energy group's plant in Leuna covers 320 hectares and can process 12 million metric tons of crude oil a year. It also produces a wide range of products that are an essential part of our daily lives. Gasoline, diesel, heating oil, liquefied gas, aviation fuels, bitumen and many other specialty products for the chemical industry are produced by the company, where sustainable development is at the heart of its activities. The refinery is also Germany's largest producer of methanol, one of the chemical industry's most important basic materials.

The refinery is aiming to significantly reduce its carbon footprint as early as 2030. Comprehensive transformation projects - some of them in cooperation with partners from throughout the region - have been launched to achieve these goals. The majority of the projects are based on renewable electricity, the decarbonization of the energy being used - above all hydrogen, as well as the efficient use of waste heat.

Bilfinger and the multinational oil and gas group TotalEnergies are working together across Europe in upstream and downstream facilities, including the TotalEnergies refinery in Central Germany and the TotalEnergies E&P (Exploration & Production) offshore facilities in Denmark.
