Sparrows Singapore achieves API Q2 certification to support drilling work in APAC
SINGAPORE - Sparrows Group’s Singapore operation has achieved the world’s most advanced quality assurance certification for drilling service providers - the American Petroleum Institute (API) Specification Q2.
The firm successfully demonstrated its quality management system met the strict criteria set out by API in order to achieve the coveted global standard after being audited in October.
The award of several drilling equipment maintenance projects, worth approximately (USD) $7 million, in Singapore over the past year prompted the global engineering services provider to apply for the certification.
Sparrows Offshore Services (Singapore) Pte Ltd was found to be in conformance with its: maintenance of lifting and drilling equipment; management of inspection and testing services: supply of mechanical handling solutions and parts; and the provision of personnel for project management, inspection, repair, service and overhaul.
Stewart Mitchell, Sparrows’ chief executive officer, said: “This is a significant achievement for our Singapore office and a notable step forward for our drilling equipment business globally. We decided to validate our quality management system in Singapore due to the increased demand for this service in the Asia Pacific region.
“Gaining API approval assures our customers that their drilling projects are consistently being completed to the highest standard by our skilled and competent workforce.
“We are now successfully carrying out the same work in the Middle East and have a strategic plan in place to gain API Q2 certification for our UAE and Saudi Arabia locations next.”
Sparrows’ personnel were presented with the API Q2 certificate by Chan Yiu Kei from the Embassy of the United States of America.
