U.S. challenges court ruling that blocked Keystone XL Pipeline

HOUSTON (Bloomberg) -- The Trump administration is appealing a federal court in Montana’s decision to block TransCanada Corp.’s $8 billion Keystone XL crude pipeline project.

The State Department and Interior Department on Friday gave formal notice that they’re appealing a series of rulings in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. It’s the latest legal fight for the decade-old project, which is now facing another environmental review after a U.S. judge said the original assessment was inadequate.

The 1,200-mi (1,900-km) pipeline, which would help carry 830,000 bbl of crude a day from Alberta’s oil sands to U.S. Gulf Coast refiners, has faced staunch opposition from environmental groups and landowners.
