Maha Energy, Mafraq Energy partner for Oman’s Block 70
(WO) — Maha Energy entered a Joint Operating Agreement (JOA) with Mafraq Energy for Block 70 in Oman on Jan. 28. Per Maha’s website, Oman’s block 70 rests in the oil-producing Ghaba Salt basin.
As the operator of Block 40, Maha Energy has 65% of the shareholding interest. Mafraq will reimburse Maha for their prorated share of all past costs. Mafraq will also pay for its share of future expenditures on Block 70.
According to Talal Al Subhi, Director of Mafraq Energy, the collaboration will “kick off the production testing state” of Block 70. Mafraq brings local market knowledge to Maha’s operations and will serve as an experienced and competent local partner, according to Maha’s CEO Paulo Mendonça.
