World Petroleum Council to honor Aramco president for oil and gas industry contributions

(WO) — This year, the World Petroleum Council will honor Aramco President and CEO Amin Nasser with the WPC Dewhurst Award. This award recognizes Nasser’s leadership and contributions to the oil and gas industry.

He is only the twelfth recipient of the Dewhurst Award in the nearly 90-year history of the World Petroleum Council (WPC), with previous winners including Daniel Yergin (USA), Rex Tillerson (USA), Abdulla Bin Hamad Al Attiyah (Qatar), Guilherme De Oliveira Estrella (Brazil), HE Ali I. Al-Naimi (Saudi Arabia) and Sir Peter Holmes (UK).

Nasser will receive the award during the Dewhurst Ceremony at the 24th World Petroleum Congress in Calgary, taking take place from Sept. 17-21. Regularly featuring high-level industry and government representatives, the “Olympics of the Oil, Gas and Energy Industry” will be the perfect occasion to celebrate his outstanding career and contributions.  

Pedro Miras, WPC President, called Nasser “a visionary in our industry” and someone who has “earned great respect from his team as well as his peers through his support of education and training, as well as his global cooperation and open approach to the challenges we face.”

“A successful career spanning four decades”

After graduating from the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia with a degree in petroleum engineering, Nasser joined Aramco in 1982. During a successful career of more than four decades, Nasser has served in various leadership positions in the company.

Under his leadership, Aramco is engaged in the largest capital investment program in its history, building on its energy industry leadership position by expanding its oil and gas production capacity, increasing the downstream value chain with significant investments and joint venture partnerships globally, and developing new, lower-carbon energy solutions.

In addition, Nasser has called for the need for a materials transition, to address global greenhouse gas emissions associated with materials production. He is also an advocate for an efficient, accessible, and world-class supply chain, that promotes the growth of domestic small-to-medium-sized enterprises.

The advancement of people through education and training, as well as advancing the company’s innovation and technology strategy has been a priority for him. He is a champion of youth development and the company’s Young Leader’s Advisory Board (YLAB), that serves to connect Aramco’s leadership with the youth of the company.

In addition to his corporate responsibilities, Nasser is a member of the International Advisory Board of the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals; the Board of Trustees of the King Abdullah University of Science & Technology; the World Economic Forum’s International Business Council (IBC); the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Presidential CEO Advisory Board; and the JP Morgan International Council.
