Veteran World Oil contributing editor passes away
(WO) - It is with great sadness that we must report that our Contributing Editor for Drilling, Jim Redden, passed away over the weekend on Saturday, March 10, after a valiant battle with a two-month illness. To the best of our knowledge, he was approximately 71-72 years old. At the time of this writing, funeral/memorial service plans in Houston are pending.
A native of West Virginia, Jim graduated from Marshall University in 1973 with a degree in journalism. He went to work at a newspaper in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and then took a job with a newspaper in Amarillo, Texas. It was during his relatively short stay in Amarillo that Jim first encountered the oil and gas industry and began to write stories about operators and activities in the Panhandle region.
From there, Jim moved to Houston, where he began to work for various industry companies in marketing communications and other roles. Eventually, in later years, Jim left the corporate sector of oil and gas and began a very successful role as a contract writer/marketer for industry companies, particularly on the service/supply side. And it was during this time, from October 2009 forward, that Jim wrote for World Oil as a regular columnist on drilling, along with authoring several shale play articles and/or regional reports annually.
Jim was a great asset to World Oil and will be greatly missed. We will have more on his life and career in our upcoming March issue.
