Petrobras confirms deepwater gas discovery offshore Colombia

March 18, 2026

(WO) - Petrobras has confirmed a new gas discovery at the Copoazu-1 exploratory well in the offshore GUA-OFF-0 Block, further strengthening the emerging gas province in deepwater Colombia.

The well, located approximately 36 km offshore in 964 m of water, lies near the Sirius-1 and Sirius-2 wells, reinforcing the broader prospectivity of the block. Drilling operations began in November 2025 and are ongoing.

Gas-bearing intervals were identified through wireline logging and fluid sampling, including hydrocarbons in a secondary target zone, increasing the significance of the discovery. Further laboratory analysis will be conducted to characterize reservoir properties and volumes.

Petrobras operates the block through Petrobras International Braspetro B.V. (44.44%), in partnership with Ecopetrol S.A. (55.56%).

The discovery aligns with Petrobras’ strategy to expand reserves through frontier exploration while supporting regional energy security.
