Long-stroke pumping unit reduces lifting costs
Weatherford International introduced its Rotaflex long-stroke pumping unit that improves artificial lift efficiency in deep, high-volume and high gas-to-liquids wells. The units apply long pump strokes, up to 36.5 ft, and allow more time for fluids to enter the pump intake. By delivering fewer strokes per barrel at a constant velocity, the new design increases equipment run life, mitigates downhole failures and decreases deferred production. The latest version of the unit improves lift efficiency, including a purpose-built 350-series gear reducer and enhanced top drum.
Platform computes 3D fracture maps swiftly, consistently
Reveal Energy Services has announced IMAGE Frac pressure-based fracture maps with a new platform that uses parallel processing with rigorous algorithms to determine fracture geometry for multiple-zone, complex operations. The platform enables efficient computing of 3D fracture map geometry without interpretation subjectivity. The ability to rapidly process very large projects, providing fracture geometry and other fracture attributes on several hundred to thousands of frac stages, improves the predictability of their completion design performance.
Compressor has high capacity output, lower energy consumption
Tamrotor Marine Compressors (TMC) has launched a range of marine compressors for use onboard vessels operating globally. Compressors of the Seas offer a capacity output of control and service air, but with lower energy consumption, service requirements, operational expenses and harmful emissions to air. Compressors of 150 to 235 Kw have increased capacity by up to 9.7%, while energy consumption has been reduced 9.2%. Equipped with a thermal mixing valve, the compressor provides accurate and effective cooling, and adapts to environmental conditions. A new inlet valve, with integrated control air components, reduces the number of hoses, increasing maneuverability when conducting maintenance work. Also, new and improved filters ensure less oil carry-over and cleaner air.
Ultra-deep resistivity software enhances reservoir understanding, reduces well time
Halliburton has released the EarthStar ultra-deep resistivity service, a logging-while-drilling technology that maps reservoir and fluid boundaries over 200 ft from the wellbore. The service uses azimuthal electromagnetic measurements to map the geological structure around a wellbore. Measurements are integrated with Halliburton RoxC geosteering software, which provide real-time visualizations of the reservoir structure and fluid boundaries. Operators can deploy the service to estimate the volume of hydrocarbons in a reservoir. The service helps position wells in the reservoir’s “sweet spot” for maximimum recovery. Additionally, the service provides drilling hazard indicators.
Additive offers less proppants returned during drill-out, flowback
Hexion’s Oilfield Technology Group has devised a new proppant flowback control additive. PropShield is an economical, liquid agent developed for uncoated frac sand completions. This solution is applied at the blender tub, on location, using a standard liquid additive pump, and is suitable for all sand mesh sizes. The additive is compatible with most commonly used fracturing fluids and is effective at bottomhole temperatures ranging from 90°F to 275°F.
Modbus flow totalizer offers rapid readout, connectivity
SignalFire Wireless Telemetry introduces the ModQ Sentry, C1D2 non-incendive modbus flow totalizer that interfaces with turbines and flowmeters, to provide instantaneous flowrates, accumulated totals and status information. Units are configurable for volume and time settings and offer options to configure the K factor to match the turbine. Powered by an internal lithium battery for standalone operations, or an external 6 – 36-volt DC power source, the sentry provides a local display, along with a Modbus RS485 data port to integrate with PLC/SCADA and DCS systems.

Compact Ethernet media converter provides fiber optic distance extension
Antaira Technologies has expanded its industrial networking infrastructure with the IMC-C1000-XX series. The compact, IP30-rated gigabit ethernet-to-fiber media converter features a 10/100/1000Tx Ethernet port and a fixed fiber interface. The multi-mode and single-mode converters support applications with a variety of fiber distances, and are designed to fulfill industrial applications that require distance extension and high bandwidth capabilities. The compact size saves space in outdoor applications, and has built-in link-fault pass through and far-end fault function.
Fluid-free, linear actuator recaptures energy for payload lift
Rise Robotics has developed the rise cylinder, RISE-CYL-095-1200-1, an electromagnet actuator that is quieter and more efficient. The increased power density provides a 9.5 kN-rated load at a 695.9 mi service life, which is maintenance-free, according to the company. The all-electric machine features a 3.7-in. diameter, 47.2-in. maximum stroke, and 2.6 ft/sec maximum speed. Built to size and capable of long strokes, the actuator is not constrained by screw-related limitations, unlike roller screws. The cylinder is offered in sizes up to a 25.6 in.-diameter, providing thrust loads of 450 kN and speeds up to 3.3 ft/sec. In addition, 51% of battery life can be recaptured and used to lift a given payload, potentially doubling the number of lists for a given battery charge.
