CNOOC commissions compressor trains for DONGFANG 13-2 gas fields in South China Sea
ZURICH, Switzerland -- CNOOC China Limited Zhanjiang Branch has commissioned MAN Diesel & Turbo to supply a total of six compressor trains for the DONGFANG 13-2 Gas Fields Development Project in the South China Sea.
“We are delighted that a renowned company such as CNOOC Ltd. has demonstrated its confidence in our compressor technology“,states Ronnie Su, Head of Sales & Contracts Turbomachinery of MAN Diesel & Turbo in China. "This order for Dongfang emphasizes how the market is developing: the growing focus lies on reliable gas supply, which supports China’s efforts to optimize its energy mix toward cleaner sources and reduce its reliance on coal. MAN Diesel & Turbo has the right technology to fully support this goal.”
The compressor trains from MAN Diesel & Turbo Schweiz AG are to be used in gas re-injection and export on new platforms in the Dongfang 13-2 gas field, located in Yinggehai basin of the Beibu Gulf with an average water depth of approximately 70 m.
The total order comprises three wet gas and three dry gas compressor trains with intercooled barrel-type compressors – all driven by electric motors with variable frequency converter. The wet gas compressor trains will be built as standardized and modularized Upstream Packages (U-Pac).
"Today’s oil and gas industry is asking for best value solutions to tackle the cost constraints and for fast delivery times to start production as soon as possible," explains Basil Zweifel, Head of Oil & Gas Upstream at MAN Diesel & Turbo in Zurich, "MAN’s standardized Upstream Packages address these requirements to the full extent without compromising on safety and reliability. The modular approach of these packages makes it possible to cut lead time and costs considerably. Size and weight of the compressor packages are also significantly reduced, resulting in additional benefits especially for our offshore application customers."
CNOOC Ltd. is the biggest producer of offshore crude oil and natural gas in China and one of the largest independent companies worldwide in this industry. The group mainly engages in exploration, development, production and sale of crude oil and natural gas.
The South China Sea is home to vast reserves of crude oil and natural gas. CNOOC Ltd. has initiated a further development stage of Dongfang natural gas field. Additional gas exploitation in the area is part of the country's long-term goal to satisfy its growing energy consumption.
