ABERDEEN -- Sparrows Group has reinforced its leading position in the North Sea following contract renewals worth an estimated $38.7 million (£30 million) in revenue in the first-quarter 2019.

The renewed agreements with two long standing major operators in the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) are for the provision of crane management services over periods of one and five years.

Both contracts will see the company deliver a combination of preventive and corrective maintenance including condition monitoring; inspection, testing and certification; crane operators; rigging equipment management; mechanical handling and engineering support; and a deck operations safety coaching program.

The scope of work covers a total of 73 cranes situated on a number of manned and normally unmanned installations across both the North and Southern North Seas.

Stewart Mitchell, CEO at Sparrows, commented: “These contract renewals are significant to our business as they demonstrate that our clients continue to see the long-term value in our operations. Cranes are a vital component across the production and decommissioning phases of a field and as activity continues to increase it is imperative that critical equipment is correctly maintained to ensure integrity and safety at all stages of the lifecycle.

“We have been operating in the North Sea for more than 44 years so have an unrivaled breadth and depth of experience. We are the only contractor with the capability to maintain and operate the full spectrum of cranes installed in the UKCS – from first generation to the latest models. The ongoing success of our business is a testament to our skilled people who continue to deliver a high quality service.”

Sparrows has been active in the North Sea for more than 44 years and currently employs over 400 specialist offshore personnel in the UKCS.
