Tenaris to supply Petrobras with products for offshore Brazil deepwater project
Petrobras has awarded Tenaris a four-year contract for the supply of a comprehensive package of products and services for its flagship Buzios deepwater project. Located in the Pre-salt Santos Basin, Buzios is among the largest deepwater oil and gas fields in the world. Production is expected to reach 2 million barrels per day by 2030, up from a current 0.7 million barrels per day. This equals approximately 70% of today’s total production in Brazil.
The total volume of the contract exceeds 100 thousand tons of seamless and welded casing, in carbon, sour service and high collapse steel grades. For this demanding project, Petrobras has selected TenarisHydril BlueDock® weld-on connectors, as well as TenarisHydril Blue® Heavy Wall, Blue® Max and Wedge 623® premium connections, all with the environmentally friendly Dopeless® technology.
Major energy companies, including Petrobras, have validated the fatigue performance of conductor casing with TenarisHydril BlueDock® connectors. The surface casing was designed and tested according to Petrobras’s requirements and complying with international protocols such as ISO 13679 and API 5C5.
BlueDock® connectors come now with the new Automatic Anti-Rotational Keys (AARK), designed to allow multiple automatic and hands-free activation, not requiring the use of special tools. Additionally, all products provided comply with customer’s requirements for the use of slings and side door elevators. These combined features enhance safety at the rig site as well as operational efficiency.
“The Pre-salt is one of the most challenging exploration and production environments in the world. We are committed to generating value for Petrobras and feel honored to have been entrusted with such an ambitious project that reinforces the long-standing partnership between Petrobras and Tenaris in Brazil,” said Renato Catallini, Tenaris President in Brazil. “This is one of the most robust packages for complex offshore operations in the market, especially in terms of HSE” he adds.
Tenaris will supply Petrobras using its Rig Direct® service model, with pipes delivered at the port ready to be run at the offshore rig. As part of these services, Petrobras will use PipeTracer® technology, a digital solution that allows users to access products’ technical specifications, including running guidelines, and create digital tallies, eliminating the need for manual measurement, improving accuracy and simplifying operations. To support well integrity, field services specialists will accompany Petrobras operations at the rig.
The production of pipes will take place at Confab, Tenaris’s mill in Brazil, and Tamsa and Dalmine mills, in Mexico and Italy respectively.
