Buzios field offshore Brazil reaches 1 Bbbl of oil production with expectations to increase
(WO) – Petrobras, in a consortium with CNOOC, CNODC and PPSA, announced that the Búzios field offshore Brazil reached 1 Bbbl of oil production. The figure adds up the production of the five units in operation in the world's largest ultra-deepwater field, the FPSOs P-74, P-75, P-76, P-77 and Almirante Barroso.
According to Petrobras, that number is likely to grow even more. With new production systems to be installed in the coming years, the field's capacity will be increased to around 2 MMbpd by 2030.
"As we celebrate this momentous moment, we also recognize that our work is far from over. This milestone is another step in our ongoing journey of excellence and innovation. We have new production systems in the pipeline that will boost production in the Búzios field, contributing to the future of Petrobras," said the executive manager of the Búzios field, Marcio Kahn.
In June last year, Búzios had already recorded an accumulated production of 1 Bboe – which considers oil in barrels added to gas production, converted to barrels of oil equivalent (boe).
Located 180 km offshore Brazil, the Búzios field began operating in 2018 and collects positive results, in addition to the most productive wells in the country, at a depth of more than 2,000 m. The thickness of its reservoir is the same height as the Sugarloaf Mountain – and its extension corresponds to more than twice that of Guanabara Bay.
In 2020, Petrobras won the OTC (Offshore Technology Conference) Award for the set of technologies developed to make production in Búzios viable. The state-of-the-art solutions used there have increased the efficiency of the field, boosted its production, and consistently reduced costs.
