InflowControl launches world-first autonomous flow control valve for gas reservoirs

January 27, 2025

InflowControl has launched its Gas Autonomous Inflow Control Valve (Gas AICV®). This new technology marks a significant milestone as the world's first autonomous flow control valve specifically designed for gas reservoirs.

Enabling gas wells to maintain reliable, stable production and high recovery rates requires focusing on the source of both the opportunity and the challenge: the reservoir. Understanding how to manage unwanted water production from the reservoir is critical to maximize gas production, minimize downtime, and improve profitability. Gas AICV® enables efficient gas production as the valves remain 'open' for gas and condensate yet the Gas AICVs autonomously manage to restrict water from reservoir sections where water breakthrough occurs.

"We are thrilled to introduce Gas AICV® to the market," said Dr Ismarullizam Mohd Ismail, CTO of InflowControl. "This technology represents an advancement for gas reservoir management, offering efficiency and profitability for operators. Our team is dedicated to providing reservoir management solutions that meet our customer's needs and this is another industry-first technology development that our team has achieved."

About InflowControl:

InflowControl technology aims to change the oil industry to become more sustainable and cost efficient.  Increasing ultimate oil recovery is one of InflowControl's primary objectives when developing and modelling the subsurface application of their patented technologies that range from AICV® (autonomous inflow control valves) for both oil and gas reservoirs and AOCV® (autonomous outflow control valve) for uniform injection and sweep efficiencies for enhanced oil recovery.

The company is headquartered in Norway with offices globally within key oil and gas locations such as Abu Dhabi, Dhahran, Muscat, Kuala Lumpur, Stavanger, Aberdeen, Calgary, Houston and Colombia.

InflowControl is an SME (subject matter expert) within autonomous technology for reservoir management.  The teams’ focus is on increasing hydrocarbon production and recovery by means of applying technology within the lower completion to autonomously manage the reservoir.
