Decarbonizing the well construction process while ensuring safety and performance standards is critical to our industry’s pathway to net zero. EcoShield™ geopolymer cement-free system is a breakthrough that delivers industry-standard zonal isolation capabilities while significantly minimizing the impact from upstream oil and gas production. EcoShield aims to minimize the CO2 footprint for oil and gas well construction and beyond. An industry-first technology eliminates up to 85 percent of embodied CO2 emissions compared with conventional cement systems. EcoShield system has the potential to avoid up to 5 million metric tons of CO2 emissions annually. EcoShield family of products can be deployed throughout various phases of the well life cycle including abandonment across a range of field applications, including corrosive environments while delivering superior technical performance. The technology fits within standard oilfield cementing workflows without major changes to the design process, onsite execution, or post-job evaluation. EcoShield is an example of forward-thinking, innovative technology that will be able to be scaled and deployed to help continue the decarbonization of the oil and gas industry. These types of more sustainable, lower-carbon technologies are critically important today as we continue to discover and develop the new energy solutions of tomorrow.

Geological evaluation of subsurface is an essential component of formation evaluation that connects well-centric data to reservoir scale. Recent technology breakthroughs in logging-while-drilling (LWD) borehole imaging and advanced surface logging have attracted substantial attention of the energy industry, more so for possible applications in sustainable energy initiatives. Digital innovations have led to development of smart and efficient solutions that can be made available in real-time for strategic decisions as the well gets drilled. Geology while drilling is taking the center stage from picking mineralogy on cuttings to inferring depositional architecture and structural framework with image logs with deep learning workflows and artificial intelligence embedded in the tools. Geothermal, hydrogen exploration and carbon sequestration all can benefit with these digital innovations in geology while drilling.

Drilling Activity generates a significant amount of data. This data is typically captured across a variety of sources such as time and depth series data from geological surveys and drilling operations, unstructured data from End of Well reports, and structured data from internal IT systems. To date, synthesizing this data into a usable format and generating actionable insights has been a challenge. In this talk, we present results from a fielded Gen AI solution that synthesizes data from our historic drilling wells in Romania and provides a natural language interface for drilling experts to interact with. Additionally, it provides recommendations for optimizing well design and performance parameters based on past results. Our goal is to reduce project costs by streamlining information discovery and improve decision accuracy by leveraging data-backed insights.
