UTEC provides operator with real-world, virtual access to Canada's largest FPSO

HOUSTON -- UTEC, a global survey company in subsea services group Acteon, has delivered a bespoke Virtual Asset Management tool to an offshore Operator in Eastern Canada, to allow its team to remotely access its Floating, Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO), from their desktop.

The field, located offshore approximately 350 km southeast of Newfoundland and Labrador, contains one of the largest FPSO vessels ever built. At approximately the size of three football fields laid end-to-end, the FPSO is over 290 m long, more than 40 m wide and more than 18 stories high.

UTEC’s iSite tool is a web-based system which provides the Operators supply chain with the ability to tour the FPSO with 360° visualization, obtain accurate on-screen measurements and provides a central repository for drawings, 3D models, photos and reports for onshore and offshore teams.

As a multi-faceted system, iSite can be used for project planning, risk management and safety and site inductions, with a key benefit being a reduction in the number of offshore visits resulting in reduced operating costs, increased productivity and mitigation of operational risk.

Using survey technology, the data for iSite was derived from HDR spherical photogrammetry which was obtained by UTEC surveyors in October 2017.
