Active natural gas wells saw a slight increase in the U.S. during 2023 of 0.9%, to 496,756 total wells, compared with 492,197 in 2022. Accordingly, total marketed gas production in the U.S. also saw an increase.

EQT will curtail about 30 to 40 Bcf of net natural gas production through March in response to low prices, it said in a statement Monday. That’s 5% to 7% of the company’s quarterly output, based on fourth-quarter results. Total U.S. natural gas production is about 100 Bcfd, down slightly from a record earlier this year.
